The EU announced counter duties on imports with the US

The European Commission has made a proposal to introduce a 25% oncoming duties on a number of goods from the United States in response to President Donald Trump's duties, which were imposed on steel and aluminum. According to Reuters, which was published on April 7, the corresponding changes will come into force on May 16, and the rest of the MIT will take effect on December 1.

Among the products that will be imposed on new duties are a wide list, which includes positions such as diamonds, eggs, dental floss, sausages, poultry meat and others. Duties on some goods such as almonds and soybeans will take effect from December 1.

The European Commissioner for Trade Marosh Shefchovich stated that new duties would have a lower influence on the economy than the initially announced amount of 26 billion euros. At the same time, some products, such as bourbon, wine and dairy products, were excluded from the original list of possible mits after protests from France and Italy. In particular, France and Italy were concerned with the possibility of entering a 50% tariff for Bourbon, which could lead to a threat from the US on the introduction of 200% of the US counter-tariffs with EU alcoholic beverages.

In addition, as early as April 1, the EU has strengthened steel protective measures to reduce its import by 15%. In addition, the possibility of introducing quotas for imports of aluminum is considered. The last proposal should be approved by the EU Member States to the vote, which will take place on April 9.
