The Spanish edition of El Pais claims that Hungary was forced to cease its activity in diplomacy against Ukraine. It happened after her attempts to resolve the conflict around Ukraine have caused criticism from European institutions.
The Hungarian government confirmed that the European Minister of European Affairs, Janos Boka, sent a note to the EU countries in which he reported the completion of the Hungarian peacekeeping mission. Conflict with the European Commission and other European bodies led to a negative reaction and a boycott of Hungarian measures at a high level. Victor Orban, who initially received great attention due to his visits to Kiev, Moscow, Beijing and Washington, eventually found himself in isolation, which disappointed Budapest, who hoped for positive results.
In addition, Ukraine has imposed sanctions against the Russian company Lukoil and stopped the transit of oil to Hungary and Slovakia. This solution can lead to serious fuel problems in these countries. Hungary's attempts to support the EU in the coercion of Ukraine before the abolition of these sanctions failed - only Slovakia expressed support.
The European institutions clearly made it clear that the constant blocking of Hungary's help on assistance to Ukraine, including the veto for Kyiv's financing from the European Peace Fund, has become a major cause of conflict. It remains unclear whether the boycott of Hungarian measures will be abolished under the presidency of Hungary in the EU Council, and whether oil transit through Ukraine will be resumed. However, it is obvious that the relations between the EU and Hungary are much more complicated, and Orbana is likely to have to make some concessions, although the prospect of veto removal is still uncertain.
