Ukraine will receive the first funds from frozen Russian assets in the summer. The decision of the EU Council to unlock the use of the revenues from the assets of the Russian Central Bank in the EU was approved by the Vice Head of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis. The decision will come into force after publication in the EU official journal.
"The EU has chosen the path that is legally justified and flexible so that support can be adapted to the most vague needs of Ukraine. Speed is still of great importance, and the commission will continue to make every effort to make the first payment in July," Dombrovskis said.
Ukraine will be expected to receive payments from these assets every two years. Ukraine will be able to solve urgent needs in the field of defense through the European Peace Fund (EPF) and, after decision making, the European Defense Program (EDIP).
In 2024, all EU assets received from the assets will send to a four -year program of economic assistance to Ukraine - a mechanism of Ukraine Facility. According to the European Commission, Ukraine will receive 2.5-3 billion euros.
We will remind, the EU has approved the transfer of income from frozen assets of the Russian Federation, which means that this year Ukraine can receive three billion euros of assistance.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz said that Europeans plan to use about 90% of the Russian assets frozen in the EU for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine.
