The European Union is actively sought to be involved in the negotiation process on the peaceful settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine. According to the EU Callas Diplomacy Head during a visit to Washington on February 27, Europe should be part of any agreement on Ukraine, since without its participation it is impossible to ensure successful implementation of peaceful agreements.
On March 6, EU leaders intend to appoint a special representative for issues related to Russia's war against Ukraine. The idea was proposed by Finnish President Alexander Stubb and provides a significant role in Europe in negotiations.
On March 2, Prime Minister of Great Britain will meet on March 2 with EU leaders in London to discuss their response to the call of US President Donald Trump to ensure peace in Ukraine. The summit will be attended by the heads of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen and Antonio Right, as well as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also intends to participate in the summit.
The meeting in London will be a logical continuation of the negotiations held by French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris in February, and will focus on strengthening Ukraine's positions, including support for military efforts and strengthening economic pressure on Russia. The British government has confirmed its readiness with the Allies to place land and aviation in Ukraine, if necessary to ensure security.
During his visit to Washington, Kai Callas stressed that without EU participation it is impossible to reach effective peaceful agreements. EU leaders, including Ursula von Der Lyen and Antonio Right, have prepared a proposal for the appointment of a specialist, who will represent Europe in negotiations on the termination of the war.
The appointment of this representative is an important step in order that the EU has an active role in determining the conditions of a peace agreement, which will include not only political but also security guarantees for Ukraine and all of Europe.
One of the key aspects of discussions will be to identify security guarantees for Ukraine, as well as discussing possible mechanisms for financing the defense industry of Europe. In connection with the new requirements for peace, the EU seeks to develop a single defense position to increase the efficiency of Ukraine's military support and at the same time strengthen the stability of the region.
