The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, congratulating him on his election to the post of Prime Minister and expressing his gratitude for the significant assistance that Japan provides to Ukraine. During the conversation, the parties agreed on a personal meeting to continue the dialogue.
In his address, Zelenskyi emphasized the importance of the support provided by the Japanese people, in particular humanitarian and financial aid in the total amount of 12 billion dollars. This support saves thousands of lives and helps Ukraine to withstand the consequences of the war. The President also expressed gratitude for the decision of the Japanese government to transfer to Ukraine an additional 3 billion dollars secured by frozen Russian assets.
Zelensky informed Shiger Ishiba about the massive shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure on Christmas night. In this context, he noted Japan's readiness to contribute to the achievement of a just and lasting peace, as well as support to Ukraine through the provision of energy equipment and assistance in the construction of shelters for the protection of the civilian population.
"We agreed to meet to continue the dialogue," concluded Zelenskyy, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between Ukraine and Japan to strengthen security and stability in the region and the world.
