On December 27, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed Decree No. 883/2024 on the introduction of a new holiday - the Day of International Harmony and Cultural Diversity. From now on, it will be celebrated annually on May 21.
According to the document, this holiday is intended to promote unity and harmony among Ukrainian citizens, the establishment of Ukrainian national and civic identity. It is also aimed at recognizing and supporting the cultural diversity of indigenous peoples and national minorities living in Ukraine.
Particular emphasis on the holiday is on the contribution of these communities to defending Ukraine's sovereignty and independence, in particular their participation in the armed struggle against aggression by Russia.
The decree comes into force on the day of its publication, and now May 21 will be an important day on a calendar that unites all Ukrainians, regardless of their ethnic or cultural origin.
