Today, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Spain on an official visit, during which he made a number of important meetings with the Spanish leadership and the royal family.
The first point of Zelensky's visit was a meeting with Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. During the negotiations, the parties discussed a wide range of issues, including economic cooperation, energy security and joint combating the consequences of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Zelensky and the Prime Minister of Spain in Madrid have signed a defense agreement.
This is the tenth Treaty on Security Guarantees within the G7 Declaration last year.
These documents do not provide any guarantees, but record further financial and military assistance to Ukraine, as well as an obligation to consult in the event of a second aggression.
After meeting with the Prime Minister, Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the Royal Palace, where he was accepted by King of Spain Felipe VI and Queen Leticia. During the audience with the royal family, Zelensky discussed cultural and educational exchange between the two countries. Particular attention was paid to the issues of humanitarian aid and support for Ukrainian refugees who found shelter in Spain.
King Felipe VI emphasized the importance of preserving cultural ties between Ukraine and Spain and expressing support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
In completing their visit, Zelensky and Sanchez conducted a joint press conference at which the results of the negotiations were summarized. The President of Ukraine emphasized the importance of partnership with Spain and emphasized the need to increase sanction pressure on Russia.
"We appreciate the support provided by Spain, and we are counting on further deepening of cooperation in all areas," Zelensky said.
Sanchez, in turn, stated: “Spain will continue to support Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and independence. We are ready to provide all the necessary help to restore the country. ”
