Jurassic Pliosaur skull found in Great Britain: likely new species

In the county of Dorsset, the United Kingdom, a team of hunters for fossils made an exciting discovery - a well -preserved skull of the Pliozaur of the Jurassic period. The New Scientist is probably reported to be a new type of marine reptiles.

Judith Sassun, a leading Pliozaur expert from Bristol University, suggested that it could be a new species. Of particular interest is the large sagittal comb in the back of the skull, which can indicate gender differences.

Found Pliosa is young because the comb is not fully formed. A hefty skull is 1.7 meters long and the likelihood of its further growth indicates that plicoaurus was much larger than before it was considered.

This discovery allows scientists to better understand the hunting and nutritional features of pliosa. Computed tomography of sensory pits on the muzzle of reptile revealed that these pits are associated with the blood vessels and sensory nerves, helping them to determine pressure changes and hunt for prey.

The skull of Pliozaur will be presented to the audience in 2024 in the Steve Etchezt in Dorset, and will also become the object of the BBC documentary, which will be released on January 1, 2024 as part of the series "Attenboro and Giant Marine Monster".
