As of Friday, November 17, more than 4,300 Ukrainians were captured in the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine reported. This number includes both servicemen and civilians.
According to the Ministry, eight meetings of the commission on establishing the fact of deprivation of freedom as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine have already taken place.
"According to their results, the fact of imprisonment against 4.337 people (3.574 military and 763 civilians) is established," the ministry said.
Data on prisoners are entered in a special register, which is the administrator of which is the National Information Bureau, which belongs to the sphere of management of the Ministry of Reintegration.
It is emphasized that this number includes not only servicemen but also civilians, including women and men.
According to the results of the work of the commission, payments of one -time and annual financial assistance from the state are made. Since the beginning of 2023, 422 million hryvnias were released from captivity, as well as families of prisoners of war, civil hostages of the Russian Federation and political prisoners.
It is important that the occupiers create horrific conditions for Ukrainian prisoners, carrying out torture and other forms of ill -treatment. About 90% of prisoners of war went through torture, rape, sexual abuse, or other forms of cruelty in Russian captivity.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that as of the beginning of June, Ukraine returned 2.526 citizens from the Russian captivity. This issue is planned to exchange prisoners of war in the format of all, but there are obstacles from the Russian Federation.
