US President Donald Trump has expressed the opportunity to conclude a new trade agreement with China. In his statement made on February 20, Trump confirmed that such a step is possible, although he did not reveal any details of a potential agreement.
"This is possible," Trump said, answering questions about the prospects of a new Beijing Agreement. However, Bloomberg notes that any agreement will face numerous obstacles, some of which were created by the Trump administration itself.
Recall that in early February, the US President signed decrees on the introduction of new duties on imports from Canada, Mexico and China. Import duty from Mexico and Canada is 25%, and for goods from China - 10%. In response, China has imposed duties on American coal, gas, oil, agricultural machinery and some cars.
In addition, Beijing has filed a complaint to the World Trade Organization, and the US and China have 60 days to settle dispute against Chinese import duties without the participation of WTO Arbitration.
