China introduced the material for batteries that are charged in 45 seconds

Chinese researchers have developed a new crystalline material with tungsten niobium (NBWO), which can significantly accelerate the battery charging without loss of energy capacity and service life. According to Nanowerk, the innovative material opens up opportunities to create super -fast batteries that can change the electric vehicles and mobile devices.

The battery charging rate depends on how fast lithium ions move inside its structure. In traditional lithium-ion batteries, ions must overcome complex crystalline grilles, which creates resistance and slows the charging process. Researchers at the University of Venchzhou have found that when slowly charged the lithium ion form orderly patterns, which causes deformation of the crystal lattice. However, at high charging speeds, ions are chaotically distributed inside the material, reducing resistance and accelerating the process.

Test results: charges in seconds - a battery with RGO/Nb₁₆w₅o₅₅₅ material charged up to 68.5% of the capacity in just 45 seconds. Keeps durability - after 500 fast charging cycles, the battery has not lost more than 23% of the capacity. High energy density-up to 406 watts per kilogram, which is much higher than the performance of many modern lithium-ion batteries. To optimize the work of the material, scientists used machine learning, analyzing 84,000 potential materials. They found that the addition of restored graphene oxide to the NBWO surface helps to effectively direct lithium ions, accelerating the charging process.

What does this mean to technology? Faster charging of electric vehicles - the new material can reduce the time of charging the car from hours to minutes. Revolution in smartphones - charging phones will take less than a minute. More efficient energy storage - a high energy intensity coefficient will help to develop renewable energy.

Chinese scientists continue research to scale production of new material. If their technology is introduced into commercial batteries, it can cause a revolution in the energy sphere.
