The Mexican president rejected Ukraine's request to arrest Putin

Mexico President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador rejected the request of the Ukrainian authorities to arrest Vladimir Putin in the event of his visit to Mexico. It happened against the background of the possible participation of the Russian leader in the inauguration of the next Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum, scheduled for October this year.

According to Reuters, Lopez Obrador told reporters at a government press conference: “We cannot do it. This is not our responsibility area. " Thus, Mexico confirmed that she would not act under the international arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ISS).

The Ukrainian Embassy sent an official request to the Mexican authorities, asking them to arrest Putin if he visited the inauguration on October 1. The request relied on the ISS warrant who accuses the Russian president of war crimes.

Mexico's refusal to arrest Putin has caused disappointment among Ukrainian officials who believe that the international community should act in accordance with the decisions of the ISS. Mexico also retains a neutral position on this issue, referring to its policy irrelevant to the internal affairs of other countries.
