Canadian Prime Minister Mark Karney and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had a telephone conversation, which discussed further support from Ukraine in counteracting Russian aggression, as well as the issue of strengthening Euro-Atlantic security. This was reported in the office of the head of the Canadian government.
The statement states that the leaders focused on key topics such as continuing the support of Ukraine's self -defense, increasing the level of military readiness of the Alliance and the fair distribution of defense obligations between the Allies. Particular attention was paid to the possibility of deepening transatlantic cooperation in the field of defense industry and innovation. Canadian Prime Minister stressed that NATO remains the foundation of security in the transatlantic space and has confirmed its country's unchanging devotion to strengthening the Alliance.
This conversation took place against the backdrop of the Alliance's growing concern about the potential use of nuclear weapons in space - such threats earlier this week was stated by NATO Rutyte Secretary General.
