On the flight of Brussels Airlines, which was flying from Dakar (Senegal) to Brussels, there was an unusual case - childbirth at an altitude of 11 km. 30 minutes after take-off, at 23:51, one of the passengers, a 32-year-old woman at the 32nd week of pregnancy, turned to flight attendants due to severe abdominal pain. As it turned out, these were not spasms, but the beginning of childbirth.
Folded, the flight attendant Jennifer Joey, who was on the change, asked through a loudspeaker whether there was a medical staff on board. The salon responded by a doctor and a nurse who had recently completed her studies. Together, they helped the woman give birth at an altitude of 11 km. While the aircraft commander decided to return to Dakar Airport to deliver the passenger to the hospital, the baby was born right on board. The newborn girl, who was called Fanta, the doctor confirmed that she is healthy. This has brought great relief to all passengers and crew. Jennifer's flight attendant shared her impressions: “As a crew member, I am ready for everything - even for childbirth. We kept peace and worked as a team. It was charming. ” She added that if she had not become a flight attendant, she might have worked as a midwife.
As for the future of a little Fanta, many people wondered if she would receive the right to free flights for life, which is a common practice in such cases. However, the airline limited itself to greetings and stated: "We hope that one day we will see you on board again."
