Extraordinary presidential elections in Azerbaijan: a political turn in the eastern country

President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, appointed an extraordinary presidential election, which will take place on February 7, 2024. The decision to hold an extraordinary election was announced on Thursday, December 7, through the order of the President, the press service of the Head of State reports.

The Central Election Commission is instructed to ensure the proper course of the election process. According to the current legislation, the term of the presidential mandate in Azerbaijan is 7 years.

This decision came as a surprise, since the previous elections were only to take place in 2025. Such a movement of the President caused some assumptions and discussions in the political and expert circles of the country.
