The US Oceanic and Atmospheric Oceanic and Atmospheric Oceanic and Atmospheric Space Translation Center has announced a forecast for solar and geomagnetic activity for the period from December 11 to December 13, 2023.
Today, December 11, significant geomagnetic activity with K-index 5 is expected, which indicates the red level of the solar storm. However, tomorrow, December 12 and 13, a decrease in index 3 corresponding to the green level, and the magnetosphere should return to normal.
Geomagnetic storms are classified by K-index from 2 to 9, where higher values indicate stronger storms and their possible consequences for technology and people.
It should be noted that the influence of geomagnetic storms may include obstacles for the operation of technical systems and perturbation of magnetic floor, but in this case it is assumed rapid return to a standard level of magnetic activity.
Precautions and caution can be important during periods of increased solar activity, especially for technical systems that can be sensitive to geomagnetic effects.
