Slovenia has become a new buyer of Azerbaijani gas, joining a number of European countries that are already receiving supplies from Azerbaijan. According to Interfax agency, Slovenia has started gas imports from the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding Between SOCAR and the Slovenian company Geoplin on July 17 this year.
Thanks to this agreement, Slovenia has become a ninth European country that implements Azerbaijani gas into its energy infrastructure, joining countries such as Turkey, Georgia, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Serbia. Socar and Geoplin plan to develop a long -term energy partnership.
In 2023, the exports of Azerbaijani gas increased by 5.3% to 23.8 billion cubic meters, and supply to Europe increased by 3.5%, reaching 11.8 billion cubic meters. In 2024, Azerbaijan plans to export about 25 billion cubic meters of gas, of which 13 billion cubic meters are intended for European countries. Earlier, Geoplin had contracts with Russian Gazprom, but now turned to new sources of supply.
