The Consulate General of Slovakia in St. Petersburg will officially cease its work on December 31, 2024. From now on, Russian citizens will not be able to receive consular services at this representative office.
The message states that Russians who need visas, residence permits or other documentary services will be able to apply to the Slovak embassy in Moscow , which will remain the country's only diplomatic institution in the Russian Federation.
This decision is part of a wider reorganization of the work of Slovak diplomatic missions. In August 2024, the Slovak government decided to optimize the network of its embassies and consulates, including the closure of several institutions. In addition to the consulate in St. Petersburg, the following offices will close at the end of December:
- Embassy of Slovakia in Denmark;
- Embassy of Slovakia in Norway;
- Consulate General in Krakow, Poland.
The closure of the consulate in St. Petersburg symbolizes the strengthening of Slovakia's distance from Russia amid international tensions, and is also a step in the direction of optimizing the work of the country's diplomatic institutions.
