The US State Department has suspended the USAID initiative to restore Ukraine's energy infrastructure this week. Hundreds of millions of dollars were invested within this program. This was reported by NBC News on Friday, February 28.
One of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) said that this decision could significantly undermine the administration's ability to negotiate a ceasefire. "This will be a signal for Russia that we have to be killed in Ukraine and our past investments," he said.
According to him, Russia is leading the "Economic War" against Ukraine, and USAID played a key role in maintaining the stability of the Ukrainian economy. "We have provided great support to the Ukrainian government to avoid the macroeconomic crisis," the agency's representative added.
NBC News also reported that 64 USAID employees have worked in Ukraine earlier, but after the decision of the Trump administration, most of them will be recalled, only eight representatives of the agency will remain in the country.
This solution can have significant consequences for the energy sector of Ukraine, which is so suffering from constant attacks by Russia. Recovery from the country's power system remains a critical issue for ensuring stability and security of the population.
