The US Department of Defense has signed a $253.7 million contract with Williams International. The purpose of the agreement is to increase the production of missiles of various types, in particular within the framework of military aid programs to Ukraine.
The contract, implemented as part of the Defense Production Act, will allow the company to increase production capacity of gas turbine engines, which will become the basis for a number of modern missiles, including:
- Harpoon anti-ship missiles ;
- AGM-158 JASSM air-to-ground missiles ;
- AGM-158C LRASM long-range anti-ship missiles ;
- Tomahawk cruise missiles and other high-precision strike weapons.
Funding for the implementation of this project is provided through the DPA (Defense Production Act Purchases) program and is provided in the 2024 budgets for security in the Indo-Pacific region and Ukraine.
The Pentagon emphasized that this initiative will allow Williams International to expand domestic production, meeting the demand for modern strike weapons and unmanned systems. It will also increase the US's ability to support allies, including Ukraine, amid growing tensions on the global stage.
