Biden's Ukraine Strategy: The Risks of Endless War and Nuclear Escalation

The American edition of The Wall Street Journal recently criticized the strategy of the Joe Biden administration to support Ukraine in its war with Russia. The newspaper emphasizes that Washington's current approach carries significant risks both for Ukraine itself and for the entire world. WSJ analysts believe that this strategy creates the conditions for a protracted conflict that could turn into an "endless war" with the risk of nuclear escalation.

Biden's goal, according to White House sources, is to "improve Ukraine's strategic position as much as possible between now and the end of his term."

"We will continue to provide Ukraine with the equipment it needs to push back the Russians, stabilize the front line, develop leverage and improve their negotiating position," an administration official said.

Biden's closest aides "have no illusions that Ukraine will be able to win the war by January 20, when a new president will be in the White House, and they have lowered expectations for what Kyiv can achieve in the next four months."

At the same time, "they are not pushing Ukraine to hold peace talks," because "Russia is not ready to conduct meaningful negotiations that would lead to a result acceptable to Ukraine," said a source in the White House.

However, with this approach of the American leadership, "the conflict seems endless and carries risks of escalation with the participation of nuclear Russia," the publication writes.

The Biden administration's strategy "looks very much like a recipe for a new endless war" because it "is unable to provide enough weapons to achieve decisive success on the battlefield, and it has no clear idea of what the end result should be," she said. Rachel Rizzo, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, told the newspaper.
