US President Donald Trump again emphasized his trust in Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite his recent disappointment with his statements about Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. At the same time, Trump sharply criticized Zelensky for his intention to review the terms of the Mining Agreement between the US and Ukraine.
This was reported by The Washington Post on March 31, after Trump interviewed journalists on board Air Force One.
Trump noted that he does not think that his relationship with the Russian leader is at a "low level". However, he expressed his disappointment because of Putin's recent statements, especially the President of Ukraine. Trump also criticized Vladimir Zelensky, accusing him of wanting to review the terms of the agreement on Ukrainian minerals. According to the US President, the leaders of the two countries have already concluded an agreement, and now Zelensky is trying to change its conditions because of their desire to join NATO.
In March 2025, the United States was preparing a 40-page agreement with Ukraine on the production and supply of minerals. However, it turned out that its previous version did not take into account security guarantees that are important for Ukraine. This was the main reason why the Memorandum prepared by the United States was rejected by the Ukrainian side. As a result, on March 29, it was reported that Ukraine will require more financial resources from the United States in exchange for access to its natural resources.
This new tension in mining negotiations only adds complexity to the already tense relationship between the two countries, where Trump continues to maintain Putin, while Zelensky tries to provide maximum benefits for Ukraine.
