Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed a serious concern about the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine and called for immediate stopping of hostilities. In his statement, he emphasized the need to create a favorable political atmosphere for negotiations in order to find a peaceful resolution of this conflict.
"We expect the political atmosphere to start negotiations (in relation to Ukraine) faster. Some countries of the West, including the United States, expect to end the electoral process. But in our opinion, it is necessary to stop conflict faster, to sit at the table of negotiations for a fell. This position was emphasized at Switzerland's summit."
Speaking of the Ukrainian-Russian war, Fidan stressed that "this problem can be solved through dialogue, not war" and that at the Swiss conference, Turkey has put forward its opinion on the termination of global split and continues to work on this issue.
A day earlier, the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry has already stated that the continuous war between Russia and Ukraine costs the region and the world expensive, and worse, this risk can grow and spread, including the possibility of using nuclear weapons, and the world should be serious about the threat of the Third World War.
In addition, Fidan stated that Putin had transmitted the message of President Erdogan to peaceful settlement in Ukraine, noting that "Putin had listed the conditions under which Russia should stop the war in Ukraine in two days. It is important that Putin had expressed it."
Also, the Turkish Foreign Minister confirmed the meeting of Erdogan and Putin on the fields of the SCO summit in Kazakhstan and that Erdogan is waiting for Putin's visit to Turkey.
Turkey is actively preparing for the role of the main mediator in the settlement of the conflict, focusing on close interaction in this matter between Erdogan and Putin.
Given that the previous agreements that could really stop the war were achieved with the participation of Turkey and on the basis of Turkish initiatives, Erdogan will propose Istanbul-1 and Istanbul-2 as basic conditions for future peace talks.
