On March 2, the UK Prime Minister Kir Starmer will host in London the leaders of Germany, Italy, Poland and other allies to discuss the situation in Ukraine and possible ways of resolving the war. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte are expected to join the summit.
The meeting will take place immediately after the Older negotiations with Donald Trump in Washington on February 27. The main question will be Trump's peaceful initiative, which he has repeatedly mentioned in his statements.
Before departure to Washington, Starmer emphasized the importance of coordination between Western partners:
"I am very amazed at what lessons we have to take out of Ukraine to better coordinate actions to support its defense capability," said Britain Prime Minister.
Zelensky, in turn, noted that he would join the meeting in London if his visit to the United States takes place.
Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk has already confirmed its participation in the summit. Also among the invitees - German Chancellor Olaf Scholt, Italy's Prime Minister George Meloni and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dick Shoiof.
Recently, European leaders have been actively discussing ways to strengthen Ukraine's support, including increasing defense costs. Earlier this month they were already met in Paris, but their positions on the possible placement of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine have dispersed.
It is expected that the following issues will be discussed during a meeting in London:
- Trump's peace initiative - what conditions he offers and whether they are acceptable to Ukraine and Europe.
- Strengthening Kiev's military support is new supplies of weapons and financial assistance.
- The role of NATO in the guarantee of Ukraine's security.
