The European Union intends to extend the temporary protection regime for Ukrainian citizens by March 2027. This issue will be considered during the EU Council on Justice and Interior Council, which will be held on June 12-13 in Luxembourg.
This was reported by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the EU Vsevolod Czentsov. According to him, the decision of the European Commission is dictated by the security situation in Ukraine, which, unfortunately, remains difficult.
"We expect that the EU Council will continue temporary protection for Ukrainians and proceed from the fact that this continuation will be by March 2027," the diplomat said.
The European Union also discusss possible scenarios after the expiration of temporary protection. Particular attention is paid to women and children who make up the vast majority of those under this status.
Next week, Viceremier-Minister of Ukraine Alexei Chernyshov will visit Brussels to meet with the European Commissioner on Migration Magnus Brunner and other European officials. The Ukrainian side intends to raise the question of how the European Commission and Member States will contribute to the return of Ukrainians who want to return home, provided they improve their security situation.
