At a meeting of foreign ministers of NATO countries, which takes place on December 3-4 at the Alliance headquarters in Brussels, an important event took place for Ukraine. Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken signed a memorandum on mutual understanding between the governments of both countries to support the stability of Ukraine's energy system.
This document creates the basis for deepening cooperation in the restoration of critical infrastructure, the development of distributed generation, reforming the energy sector and assistance in the transition of Ukraine to a modern low carbon economy. The signing of the memorandum opens up to $ 825 million.
US assistance will be aimed at:
- restoration of destroyed energy infrastructure;
- reduction of dependence on fossil fuel;
- integration of Ukraine into the European energy market;
- Implementation of technologies that will facilitate the creation of a more competitive energy sector.
This cooperation is part of a greater strategy for the post -war restoration of Ukraine, the purpose of which is to create an effective and sustainable energy system that meets European standards.
