President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that when the people of Belarus are freed from the Russian de facto occupation, the country will also become a member of the EU. He emphasized that Belarus is a European nation.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this during the opening of the EU summit in Brussels. The President thanked European partners for the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union, which took place on June 25 in Luxembourg.
"Europe has proven its ability to make the right decisions at the right time," he said, congratulating Moldova on receiving the EU's consent to start accession negotiations.
Zelenskyi expressed confidence that a similar decision will be made regarding free Belarus. "I am sure that there will be a similar decision regarding Belarus, as it is a European nation that should have a European future," he said.
The President also expressed hope that Georgia will soon start negotiations with the EU.
