Europe congratulates Maya Sanda on her victory

The President of Moldova, Maya Sandu, won a convincing victory in the second round of the presidential elections, receiving more than 10% more support than her opponent, representative of the pro-Russian socialists Oleksandr Stoianoglo. This event attracted the attention of European leaders, who congratulated Sanda on her re-election and expressed their support for Moldova's European course.

In particular, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, emphasized that Sandu had to overcome significant challenges to win the elections, and praised her leadership. “It takes a rare strength to overcome the kind of challenges you've had to face. I am glad to continue working with you for the sake of the European future of Moldova and its people," said von der Leyen.

French President Emmanuel Macron noted that the elections in Moldova showed the victory of democracy, which was able to overcome all interference and manipulation. According to him, France remains a partner of Moldova on its path to European integration.

The head of the European Parliament, Robert Metsol, also congratulated Sanda, noting her courage and leadership qualities in protecting the interests of the people. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also expressed his words of support, emphasizing Sandu's importance in stabilizing the country and determining its pro-European course.

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyi also expressed his support for the President of Moldova, emphasizing the close ties between Ukraine and Moldova.

Maja Sandu commented on her victory as an important step for the entire country, noting that Moldova was able to demonstrate its will and ability to overcome challenges, despite unprecedented pressure.

Voting among citizens abroad played a key role in Sandu's victory. As the calculation showed, it was the votes of the diaspora that tipped the scales in her favor, since without them the pro-Russian candidate would have won.
