According to Welt Am Sonntag, the European Union considers the possibility of concluding a joint agreement on security guarantees with Ukraine. However, according to the source, such an agreement will not have a legally binding nature and will not contain a paragraph on the possibility of sending troops to the territory of Ukraine.
The contract is planned to be signed no later than early July. Agreements "relate to political, military and economic assistance and are intended for use until Ukraine joins the EU and NATO."
The text has already been agreed by the EU and is now discussed with Kiev.
The document that the newspaper was familiar with: “The European Union and its Member States play a key role in the direct and long-term security and sustainability of Ukraine through military, civil, humanitarian, financial, trade and economic assistance, placement of displaced persons, reform support.
Also, "the EU assures Ukraine of immediate consultations in case of further attacks." However, the treaty “eliminates the direct participation of EU soldiers together with Ukrainian soldiers in hostilities against Russia.”
However, Brussels promises Ukraine to continue supplies of lethal and non -lethal weapons and continue training of soldiers.
At the same time, “Obligations are no more legally binding than bilateral security agreements,” Germany, Denmark, France, Italy, Finland, the Netherlands and Latvia have already signed with Ukraine.
