The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, responded to the constant statements of representatives of the Russian Federation regarding the "illegitimacy" of the Ukrainian government, stressing that it does not bother him. In a conversation with journalists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, he noted that Ukrainians have a clear understanding of their Constitution and laws.
"The statements of the illegitimate president of Russia about the legitimacy of my presidency are boring and uninteresting," Zelensky noted. "Adequate people who know how to read laws will understand the essence. It doesn't bother me at all."
In Russia, they are actively spreading information that Zelensky is "illegitimate", referring to the fact that his term of office should expire on May 20. However, many experts agree that it is impossible to hold elections during the war in Ukraine.
Although the level of support for President Zelensky has decreased over the past year from 91% to 63%, this indicator remains high. The Minister of Justice of Ukraine confirmed that Zelenskyi's legitimacy will not change after May 21, 2024, as his powers continue until the election of the next president.
Zelenskyy himself emphasized that elections in Ukraine can be held during martial law only if changes are made to the legislation and security is ensured for all Ukrainians, including those who are inside the country, on the front lines, and abroad.
