President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that diplomacy should play a key role in the end of the war with Russia. He said this during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21.
"We have to approach any diplomacy that will lead to the end of the war. The question is only what it will be," Zelensky emphasized.
The President has confident that strong diplomacy will be able to provide Ukraine with reliable security guarantees. Such guarantees should make it impossible for Russia, to create a strong and just peace for Ukraine and all of Europe. At the same time, he warned that low security guarantees could resume aggression from Russia.
Zelensky also noted the important role of the United States in conflict. He expressed his hope that US President Donald Trump would do everything possible to complete the war this year.
"Trump told me and then told me publicly that he would do everything to finish the war this year. I told him that we are your partners. This war we have, we know all the painful places, we lost people. This is the biggest loss for us," Zelensky said.
The President stressed that Ukraine seeks not only the rapid end of the war, but also a just and reliable peace. Ukrainians need to return to their homes, live safe and be able to work in a peaceful country.
"This is the most important thing. At least we will do everything to achieve it," he summed up.
