Every fourteenth Ukrainian refugee in Great Britain became homeless

One in fourteen Ukrainian refugees in Great Britain who fled the war became homeless as of June 2022 after relationships with sponsoring families broke down or ended, The Telegraph reports.

Thus, about 6,040 Ukrainian households with at least one dependent child, which is equivalent to at least 12,000 people, and another 3,000 single Ukrainians applied for help with advice on homelessness.
And considering that a third of local councils do not provide the government with information about homelessness among Ukrainians , there may be much more.

These are data on Ukrainians who came to Great Britain either under the "Home for Ukraine" program or to join relatives under the family scheme.

But British sponsors have no obligation to host Ukrainian refugees for the duration of their stay in the UK, and the UK government asks them to commit to hosting guests for at least six months.

The information was revealed following the Home Office's decision to allow all Ukrainians already granted asylum in the UK to extend their visas for another 18 months, as well as the closure of the Ukrainian family scheme at 3pm this Monday.

In addition, the rules for Ukrainians are becoming more stringent - only people who permanently reside or have settled in Great Britain will be able to act as sponsors.
