SkyUp actively uses the capabilities of ACMI profitable market, providing planes, crews, maintenance and insurance for other air carriers. In the context of the aviation sector stopping during the Russian aggression in February 2022 and the closure of the Ukrainian airspace, SkyUp responded to new realities, concluding agreements with more than 20 airlines, including Air Albania, Air Moldova and Wizz Air.
SkyUp CEO, Dmitry Seroukhov, noted that during the war, the airline changed the strategy by focusing on cargo, charter and contractual agreements such as ACMI, where the airline provides its aircraft and crews to clients. The ACMI market became important for SkyUp, and business was able to start working quickly, as most airline aircraft were evacuated from Ukraine prematurely. As a result of this strategy, SkyUp included the 20 largest ACMI suppliers in Europe for June 2023.
In addition, the airline has expanded its actions by receiving operating certificates in the US and Canada, and plans to enter the North America's profitable market. Seroukhov emphasizes the importance of further development of partnerships to support SkyUp staff and notes that the airline team intends to return to Ukraine and help the country during the war.
