The migrant crisis has worsened in the country, and some commentators have already begun to draw parallels with the civil war in the USA .
In December alone, 300,000 illegal migrants crossed the border with Mexico, and the number of arrests increased to record levels.
In an attempt to reduce the flow of illegal immigrants, the governor of the state of Texas limited the access of the federal border patrol to the section of the US-Mexico border and installed a barbed wire barrier there.
These actions were not approved in Washington.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday upheld the federal government's right to remove a state fence and allowed federal agents to cut the wires at the border.
However, the crisis continued to escalate after Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he would continue to erect barriers.
On Thursday, 25 Republican governors in half of the US states supported Texas.
They released a joint statement of solidarity with Abbott for "stepping up protections for American citizens against historic migrant flows that bring deadly drugs like fentanyl and terrorists into the country."
The governors also emphasized that the Biden administration "disregarded its obligations to the states under the constitutional compact, so Texas has every legal justification to protect the sovereignty of our states and the country."
The media drew historical parallels, noting that the use of the term "constitutional compact" when referring to the Constitution was characteristic of the confederates during the war between the North and the South in the United States.
Trump's participation
The hottest spot on the border with Mexico recently has been focused on a small area near the Rio Grande River, where crowds of migrants have gathered.
As part of Operation Lone Star, the governor of Texas blocked 50 km of the border with barbed wire along the city of Eagle Pass.
He posted photos of the Texas National Guard laying new barbed wire along the river.
The move does not appear to violate the Supreme Court's order, which allowed the removal of the existing wire but stopped short of installing new barriers.
Democrats are calling on President Biden to take a tougher stance on Texas.
"Governor Greg Abbott is using the Texas National Guard to obstruct and create chaos at the border," Congressman Joaquin Castro tweeted.
The White House is also trying to hold Abbott accountable for ordering floating barriers on the Rio Grande and detaining thousands of migrants.
The conflict between the president and the governor was soon joined by former US President Donald Trump, who is now confidently leading the position of the presidential candidate from the Republican Party in the upcoming elections.
Trump urged states to send National Guard personnel to Texas.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, one of the signatories of the letter of support for Texas, said on January 26 that he is ready to send Florida National Guard personnel to the US-Mexico border.
"States can increase efforts to ensure the sovereignty of the territory and the sovereignty of our country," Desantis told the press.
Aid to Ukraine is one step further
While passions are raging at the border, Congress has been unable to agree on a bill to reform immigration rules for the second month.
The reform should, among other things, give new powers to US President Joe Biden to close the border in case of an emergency, and also speed up the processing of political asylum cases.
But what does Ukraine have to do with it?
The fact is that this draft law provides for the continuation of aid to Ukraine.
On December 6, the draft law on financing aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan in the amount of about $106 billion failed to pass a procedural vote in the US Senate.
This was prevented by the Republicans, who put forward demands for a tougher migration policy. They sought to strengthen the border with Mexico and consider this issue only in connection with aid to Ukraine and Israel.
Trump criticized the agreement to strengthen immigration rules in the United States.
"A bad deal on the border is much worse than no deal," Trump wrote on the Truth Social social network on January 27.
Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, sent a letter to lawmakers saying the border security deal, which also includes aid funding for Ukraine, has no chance of approval.
Russian trace
At the same time, Russia is trying to manipulate the domestic political crisis in the United States.
Its purpose is to increase instability in the country and hinder the political debate on military aid to Ukraine, according to ISW analysts.
In the latest report, they note that Russian state media and war bloggers continue to fill the information space of the Russian Federation with statements about the conflict between the federal authorities of Texas and the United States.
Analysts noted that one well-known Kremlin-linked warlord was trying to undermine the legitimacy of the upcoming US elections.
According to ISW, these statements are likely part of a targeted Russian information campaign.
