Polish President Andrzej Duda stated that his country has the right to demand from NATO a formal invitation for Ukraine. He expressed this position during a press conference at the International Economic Forum in Davos, emphasizing that Ukraine's membership in the Alliance is the best security guarantee for its citizens.
Duda stressed that Poland has accepted a considerable number of Ukrainian refugees and continues to face the risks associated with Russia's aggression. In particular, he mentioned the missile strikes of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, which pose a potential threat to Poland, and cases where Polish military aviation is activated in response to these threats.
"In connection with these risks, Poland has the moral and political right to demand NATO to invite Ukraine to the Alliance," the Polish President said.
Andrzej Duda believes that the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO should be a priority for the bloc. In his opinion, Ukraine's invitation to the Alliance is strategically important for the security of the whole of Europe.
At the same time, Ukraine's participation in NATO remains a difficult issue due to current military conflict with Russia and political risks. Despite this, Poland's position indicates an increase in Ukraine's support among European allies.
