The legendary French composer and author Charles Dumont has died

Charles Dumont, a French composer, singer and author of many cult songs, passed away at the age of 96. He died after a long illness, the details of which have not been released. This was reported by Deadline .

Charles Dumont was born with a passion for music, particularly jazz. He studied trumpet at the Toulouse Conservatory of Music, but was forced to give up this instrument due to an operation on his tonsils. Later, Dumont switched to the piano and began writing songs, dreaming of creating music that would leave a mark on history.

The 1950s were a difficult period for him: music did not bring income, so he worked at temporary jobs to survive.

The turning point in his career came in 1956 after meeting the poet Michel Walker. Together they created Non, je ne regrette rien , a song that became world famous thanks to Edith Piaf.

Dumont wrote music for Piaf for seven years, creating more than 30 compositions for her that became an integral part of her repertoire. Their collaboration ended after the singer's death in 1963.

Charles Dumont's career lasted more than half a century. He worked with many stars, including Dalida, Jacques Brel, Barbra Streisand and Tino Rossi. His songs were featured in films and TV series, and also became an integral part of France's cultural heritage.
