On the first day of his new term, Donald Trump again announced the withdrawal of the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO). This step was a continuation of his previous policy, as the Trump administration was already formally released from the organization in July 2020 against the background of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the text of the executive decree, Trump outlined a number of reasons for this decision. In particular, he pointed to the "poor management of the organization during the Covid-19 pandemic", its inability to reform and dependence on "unacceptable political influence" by Member States. The President also noted that the US is making excessive financial contributions to the organization, which, in his opinion, is unfair.
"This is a serious decision," Trump said before signing the decree, reminiscent of his previous criticism of WHO and the statement that the organization is not effective enough.
