Ukraine enters the army of the most important agricultural workers in a desperate attempt to strengthen the armed forces, writes Bloomberg. After two years of fierce battles, fresh troops were again needed, which was why the future of many farms was threatened.
In 2023, Kyiv created a system of protection of employees of critical industries from conscription. But as the number of volunteers is declining, and new forces are needed on the front line, more and more farmers are being called for service. On paper, agricultural workers are ideal candidates for the Ukrainian military. They are accustomed to treating large equipment and managing tractors, which gives them skills, which are essential on the battlefield.
As a result, Ukrainian officials faced the dilemma: they are forced to balance between the conservation of Ukraine's economic core and the protection of the country's sovereignty.
