Amsterdam, Wednesday, November 22, 2023

The parliamentary elections that have started today in the Netherlands are promised to identify the new Prime Minister after 13 years of government of Mark Rutte. According to RBC-Ukraine, voters will elect a candidate who will lead the country for the first time since 2010.

According to social surveys, leadership shared between the Right-Liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), a long time headed by Rutte, and a coalition of "left-green" and Labor (Groenlinks-Pvda) under the leadership of the Francis. Heart Freedom Party (PVV) of Gerta Wilders is also among the leaders.

It is noted that most of the Dutch have not yet decided on the choice, which may indicate potential negotiations on the creation of a coalition government.

Mark Rutte, who may be interested in the post of NATO Secretary General after Jens Stoltenberg's departure, has previously expressed his interest in this matter. Other candidates, such as Estonia Prime Minister Kai Callas and Foreign Minister of Latvia Krishjanis Karinsh, also expressed a desire to hold the post of Secretary -General of NATO.

The high level of uncertainty will determine further political dynamics as elections become a key point in the history of the Netherlands political landscape.
