The Odesa City Council plans a large -scale fortification of the coastline in the coastal area of Arcadia. To this end, 167 million hryvnias have already been allocated from the city budget. The tender for the works was posted on the Public Procurement portal Prozorro on April 22. The completion of all work is expected by the end of December 2026.
The project covers the overhaul of the coasting on the site from buildings on Novoberegovaya Street, 90/51 to the facility on the Arcadia Beach, 10. According to officials, this area is one of the most vulnerable to erosion within the city. Due to the intensive use of beach infrastructure, natural and climatic factors, the shore is gradually destroyed, which threatens both the tourist attractiveness of the area and the safety of residents and holidaymakers.
The project will be implemented in two stages:
The first stage involves the complete disassembly of the existing coastal infrastructure. It is about dismantling reinforced concrete structures that have lost their functionality, as well as underwater elements - wavemies, piles and slabs. Heavy equipment will be used in the process: excavators for digging trenches and ditches, car cranes for lifting structures, dump trucks for the removal of construction debris. Old metal piles will be removed from the seabed with the involvement of specialized diving equipment.
In the second stage, it is planned to create a modern, reliable coastal fortification. It is envisaged to lay new concrete slabs, the arrangement of ramps, wave structures, concrete coating of the waterfront, as well as the erection of stairs for additional stabilization of the slope. It is important that work in the water area will be performed under the constant supervision of professional divers to guarantee the accuracy of installation and safety of employees.
Arcadia beach is one of Odessa's most popular resort facilities, which attracts thousands of tourists every year. However, the active use of the territory, combined with the constant influence of the sea waves, leads to gradual degradation of the shore. According to experts, without timely investment in the coastal rings the city risks losing part of the coastline and to risk the infrastructure built near the water.
The contracting organization that will receive a contract for the execution of work must meet a number of technical requirements. In particular, to have experience in carrying out similar work, the necessary equipment for the performance of underwater and concrete work, as well as specialists with certification for work in the coastal zone. The quality of work will be controlled by the capital construction of the Odessa City Council.
The city authorities hope that the renewed coasting will not only be effective protection against erosion, but also facilitate the development of tourist infrastructure in Arcadia. In addition, the coastal area updates should create comfortable conditions for locals and city guests.
