Sweden is strengthening its energy infrastructure ahead of a possible war with Russia

Sweden needed to adapt its critical infrastructure to a possible confrontation with Russia. Sweden's national defense policy has undergone changes as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which has forced the country to review its energy security strategies.

In this context, special attention is paid to the modernization of ports, roads, railway networks, hospitals and shelters. For example, the power plant in Malmö, which was mothballed, is being considered again as an important object of energy infrastructure. This is due to the potential need to ensure electricity supply in the event of war, given Russia's behavior in Ukraine.

The director of the power plant, Mikkael Nilsson, expressed the hope that such measures will not be necessary, but preparedness for such a scenario is very important. The new reality prompts Sweden not only to strengthen its armed forces, but also to actively update its civilian infrastructure.

Until then, the Swedish authorities were actively developing peaceful directions, and their armed forces were reduced after the end of the Cold War. However, now they are forced to pay attention to preparing for possible threats.

Experts note that critical infrastructure, in particular the power grid, becomes the main target during conflicts. At the same time, they point to the example of Ukraine, where Russian aggression led to damage to energy facilities and disconnection of cities from electricity supply.

In this regard, the Swedish government is considering important steps to improve the readiness and protection of its infrastructure. This includes increasing the number of qualified workers who will be ready to perform civil defense duties. It is also planned to improve fences and strengthen control over the country's energy facilities.

Currently, the Swedish government has allocated significant funds for these purposes, taking into account the changes in the geopolitical situation.
