Hungary decided to send financial assistance to the Leban army, thus replacing planned military assistance to Ukraine. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siarto reported it during a visit to Beirut, saying that Budapest was ready to support in strengthening stability and security in the Middle East.
According to Siarto, the Hungarian government will allocate 400 million forints (approximately 991 500 euros) in support of the Lebanese army through the European Peace Fund, emphasizing that these funds are sent "instead of sending weapons to Ukraine." Siarto noted that Hungary can provide such assistance because it is not involved in military supply to Ukraine, and saved funds can be used to support other countries.
"We send these funds to Lebanon through the European Peace Fund, and we can do it because we do not send weapons to Ukraine, so this money can be used to support other countries," Siarto explained.
It should be noted that Hungary has been blocking the distribution of more than six billion euros from the European Peace Fund for more than a year, which are intended to reimburse the expenditures of EU countries to provide military assistance to Ukraine in a war with Russia. This decision further increased political tension in the European Union.
