Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed his position on the Russo-Ukrainian War, emphasizing the need for peace talks to end the conflict. Orban believes that without the participation of Western armies in the war, the victory of Ukraine is impossible, and therefore the only real option is ceasefire and the beginning of diplomatic efforts.
In an interview for the German edition of NZZ, Orban noted that the European Union made a mistake at the beginning of the war, when he did not start negotiations and did not try to isolate the conflict. The politician is convinced that even today the only way to peace is the immediate ceasefire and the beginning of diplomatic consultations. "It was necessary to immediately isolate the conflict, to force the fire and start negotiations. From the very beginning it was clear that Ukrainian victory was impossible without the total war, which would be involved in the Western armies. Today we can only help Ukraine with the cessation of fire and peace," said Orban.
The prime minister also rejected the idea that Ukraine's problem was insufficient weapons from the West, and warned that Ukraine could turn into "Afghanistan" without negotiations. According to his opinion, without diplomatic efforts, the war can continue to completely destroy the country, which will lead to catastrophic consequences for Europe. "If there are no peace negotiations, the war will continue to destroy, and Ukraine will become Afghan the European Union," Orban emphasized.
Separately, the Prime Minister of Hungary spoke about the potential freezing of the conflict. Answering the question of whether Russian President Vladimir Putin agrees to freeze the war, Orban said that he could not predict that he was thinking. He only emphasized the importance of diplomacy and peace talks as the only possible way to reach peace. "The West can win this war only if they send our soldiers to Ukraine. And we have excluded it. That's why we need Trump now," Orban said that only with the participation of former US President Donald Trump can be achieved in negotiations. This is not the first such statement of Orban. Earlier, he visited Kiev and called on President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to agree to peace talks, and then, visiting Moscow, again raised the issue, without mentioning the role of Putin in the process of peace talks.
According to Orban, if the negotiations are not initiated in the near future, Ukraine may be in a situation similar to Afghanistan, which will be a serious threat to Europe as a whole.
