Al Kapon's prison opens again - by Trump's order

US President Donald Trump has instructed to restore one of the most famous prisons in the world - Alcatras. The American leader reported his decision on the social network X, adding that the revival of the "rock" would become a symbol of "law, order and justice."

According to Trump, the prison must be significantly expanded and rebuilt. He explained such a step with the need for harsh measures to fight particularly dangerous criminals, recidivists and those who "spread dirt, bloodshed and chaos on the streets." "When we were a serious nation, in the past, we planted the most dangerous criminals without hesitation and kept them away from those who could be harmful. So it should be," he said. The Ministry of Justice, the FBI and the Ministry of Internal Security have already received appropriate instructions for the renewal of prison. Alcatras, located on the island of the same name in San Francisco Gulf, was built in 1912 as a prison for prisoners of war. In 1936, it was handed over to the US Department of Justice and turned into a federal prison of the strict regime. The most dangerous criminals, including the legendary gangster Al Kapon and George Barnes, known as the machine gun, were sent here. Barnes received a life imprisonment for the abduction of oil magnate Charles Urshel.

Alcatras gained a reputation of an impregnable prison: 14 attempts were recorded during her work, but none of them ended with officially confirmed success. In March 1963, prison was closed due to high detention costs. Subsequently, it was turned into a museum that is attended by millions of tourists every year. Now, it seems, the legend of the American penitentiary system will get a second life.
