Physicists opened a new quantum state of matter

Physicists have made a sensational discovery that can revolutionize our understanding of quantum processes and properties of matter. About 50 years ago, scientists have suggested that certain groups of quantum particles can go into a coordinated collective state without any external influence. This phenomenon has been considered impossible in the real world, but now scientists have been watching the so -called over -radiation phase transition (SRPT), which is undoubtedly an important step in the development of quantum physics.

The overcoming phase transition is a phenomenon in which a group of atoms, each of which behaves as a tiny dipole, interacts with the electromagnetic field collectively. This leads to the fact that the atoms, instead of emitting light independently, begin to create a powerful flash of light together. This behavior is an indicator that the system goes into a separate phase, similar to the transition from a liquid state to a solid, only at the quantum level. The main characteristic of SRPT is that the collective behavior of atoms leads to a change in the electromagnetic field without any external intervention. When the connection between the atoms and the field exceeds the critical threshold, the system goes into the over -radiation phase, which creates an endless potential for new scientific research. This discovery was made in a crystal containing Erbius, iron and oxygen. For the study of physics cooled this crystal to the temperature close to absolute zero (minus 271 degrees Celsius) and exposed its influence of the magnetic field 100,000 times more stronger than the Earth's magnetic field. Thanks to this environment, the researchers have been able to see the spin vibrations of iron and erbium ions interact with each other and with the field, which allowed to detect an unusual quantum phase.

The new discovery not only confirmed the existence of this exotic quantum state, but can also open new horizons to create quantum sensors and calculation technologies, increasing their accuracy, sensitivity and efficiency. Scientists believe that this technology can be used in the future to create new types of materials and quantum computers. This breakthrough also allows you to investigate the management of the phase of matter with the help of quantum electrodynamics of cavities. Since the crystal used in the study belongs to the family of magnetic materials, physicists hope that more examples of interesting quantum behavior hidden in them can be found in such crystals.

According to research, this discovery demonstrates how ideas that still existed only within the theoretical framework can turn into reality, provided that the appropriate laboratory conditions are created. Since these quantum processes are able to change our understanding of physical laws, this discovery undoubtedly has a huge potential for the development of new technologies.
