Hungary sent a letter to the EU countries with claims to Ukraine

Hungary sent a document to the countries of the European Union in which it makes claims to Ukraine regarding the protection of the Hungarian national minority.

According to information, Budapest demands the restoration of the rights of national minorities to the level that existed before 2015. This issue is considered one of the key issues in the process of negotiations regarding Ukraine's membership in the European Union. The document contains two main requirements:

  1. Restoring the rights that guarantee the free use of the Hungarian language.
  2. Restoration of the right to political representation at the regional and national levels.

The document also states that Ukraine ignored the needs of the Hungarian community in determining the subjects that should be taught in Ukrainian in schools. Hungary also expressed dissatisfaction with changes in the population ratio after the revision of administrative districts.

The letter states: "The mandatory 10% ratio that national minorities must achieve in the local population to be able to claim language rights is not justified in the case of national minorities."
