Ukraine will indeed lose, and Putin "has never been so close to his goal," Politico claims. At the same time, there are so many problems in Kyiv that it seems that it is no longer possible to solve them, and gloomy moods have taken root both among the population and among officials.
Today, the promises of the West to support Kyiv "as much as necessary" seem to Ukrainians to be empty words. However, as the publication notes, it is not only that the Ukrainian troops are running out of ammunition: due to the weakening of Western support, the country feels "a dangerous lack of something even more difficult to obtain than shells, the fighting spirit necessary for victory."
At the same time, it seems that neither the civilian population, nor the soldiers, nor their leadership believe in victory. Recently, such people as Syrskyi, Kuleba and Zelenskyi himself publicly admit that Ukraine is in an extremely difficult situation and without the help of the West it is doomed to defeat.
Therefore, today, according to the publication, it is becoming more and more obvious: Putin's bet that he will be able to nullify Ukraine's resistance and the support of the West is justified.
"The picture emerging from dozens of interviews with political leaders, the military and ordinary citizens is a picture of a country sliding toward disaster," Politico concludes.
