The vote on Sweden's membership in NATO has been postponed

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament decided to postpone the vote on the issue of Sweden's admission to NATO membership. The parliamentarians decided to hold additional negotiations to study all aspects of the application in detail.

For the third time, the commission's decision has dragged out the ratification process, which has been going on for 18 months. The head of the commission, Oktay, said that further negotiations may take place and, possibly, the draft law will be returned to the agenda next week. However, he refrained from giving a clear time frame.

"In order for all our legislators to approve Sweden's membership in NATO, they must be fully convinced. We will discuss all this at our next commission meeting," he said after a long debate.

The commission can make decisions on draft laws by a simple majority. If necessary, the legislators can invite the Swedish ambassador to inform, taking into account the rules of the parliament and the necessity. This was indicated by Oktay himself.
