The Chernivtsi region of Ukraine is facing an increase in the number of cases of influenza, SARS and COVID-19, which exceeds the epidemic threshold. According to the press service of the Ministry of Health, as a result, it is possible to impose a quarantine in the region.
During the past week, 5,586 cases of SARS, influenza and COVID-19 were recorded in the Chernivtsi region. This is an exceeding of the epidemic threshold, which poses a threat to the health of citizens and may lead to the introduction of quarantine restrictions.
According to chief sanitary doctor Ihor Kuzyn, introduction of local quarantines is possible by decision of local authorities. After the lifting of the nationwide quarantine in Ukraine, local measures remain effective in combating the spread of infections.
"If the epidemic threshold is exceeded in the region, enhanced anti-epidemic measures may be applied by decision of the local authorities. After the coronavirus was removed from the group of particularly dangerous infectious diseases, and the national quarantine in Ukraine was canceled, the norm in the form of a local quarantine remains effective," Kuzyn explained.
It is noted that more than 1.5 million cases of SARS, influenza and COVID-19 have already been recorded since the beginning of the epidemic season in October. During the week from December 4 to 10, 155,539 cases of the disease were registered, of which 84,823 were children.
In addition, influenza viruses were detected in four regions. In the Volyn and Kirovohrad regions it is influenza type A, and in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rivne regions it is influenza type B.
It is worth noting that the WHO officially canceled the coronavirus pandemic in the world in May 2023, and restrictions and quarantine were also canceled in Ukraine. However, taking into account the high incidence of large cities, where 13 strains of the coronavirus have been recorded, local quarantine measures are possible.
Observation of the epidemic situation in Chernivtsi region remains relevant, and the resolution of issues regarding a possible quarantine will be determined by the activities of local authorities and the health of citizens.
