The Rheinmetall company will supply tens of thousands of projectiles for Ukraine

The Rheinmetall company from Germany received a new order for the supply of several tens of thousands of projectiles of various types for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2025. The value of this order is more than 100 million euros, which is in addition to previously concluded agreements for artillery ammunition.

The new contract is a continuation of a series of agreements for the supply of artillery ammunition, which were previously concluded with the Bundeswehr for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Germany. In July 2023, Rheinmetall concluded a new framework agreement with the Bundeswehr in the artillery sector, which provides for the supply of hundreds of thousands of shells, detonators and metal charges.

According to the agreement, which runs until 2029, the potential volume of orders from the Bundeswehr will amount to approximately 1.2 billion euros.

The press service of the Rheinmetall company indicates that the need to replenish ammunition stocks due to the war in Ukraine led to the conclusion of significant contracts for artillery ammunition. Rheinmetall's range of projectiles includes the DM121 high-explosive projectile, the DM125 smoke/obscuration projectile, the DM121 SMArt seeker projectile (jointly with Diehl Defence), and Rheinmetall Denel's versatile Assegai 155mm artillery ammunition.

According to the plans of the European Union, the provision of artillery shells to Ukraine is expected within a 12-month period. So far, the EU has delivered about 300,000 shells out of the promised million, but there is concern that some of the shells may have to be purchased outside the EU due to the possibility of delivery delays.
